UPSC CAPF AC Exam Pattern is as follows-

Written Examination:The Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandants) written examination to be conducted by Union Public Service Commission will consist of two papers. The CAPF Paper I will be2 Hour duration and CAPF Paper II will be 3 Hour duration.

CAPF AC Paper I: General Ability and Intelligence: Questions in this paper will be set in English as well as Hindi.


CAPF AC Paper II: General Studies, Essay and Comprehension : Candidates will be allowed the option of writing the Essay Component in English or Hindi, but the medium of Precis Writing, Comprehension Components and other communications/ language skills will be English only.

NOTE I: For Paper II, CAPF candidates must make sure that they only use the allowed medium for each of the above Components. No credit will be given for answers written in a medium other than the one allowed in the CAPF Exam Paper.


NOTE II: Each CAPF Exam Paper will have minimum qualifying marksthat may be set by the Commission at its discretion.


Paper I of CAPF AC Exam will be evaluated first and evaluation of CAPF AC Paper II will be done only of those candidates who obtain the minimum qualifying marks in Paper I.

PENALTY FOR WRONG ANSWER (In Objective type Paper 1 of UPSC CAPF AC Exam): Candidates should understand that marking incorrect answers on the Objective Type Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandants) Exam Question Paper will result in a penalty (Negative Marking).

(i) There are four options for the answer to every CAPF question. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate,1/3 (0.33)of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty.
(ii) If a candidate gives more than one answer, it will be considered as a wrong answer even if one of the given answers happens to be correct and there will be same penalty as above for that question.
(iii) There won't be any penalties if a candidate for the CAPF leaves a question unanswered, i.e., doesn't provide an answer.

Physical Standards/Physical Efficiency Tests and Medical Standards Tests


Candidates who pass the UPSC CAPF AC written exam will receive a summons for the physical standards and physical efficiency tests as well as the medical standards tests. Candidates who pass the Physical Efficiency Tests will have fulfilled the eight physical requirements listed in Appendix-VI.

Interview/Personality Test:

CAPF Candidates who pass the medical standards tests will be invited to an interview and personality test that will be administered by the Union Public Service Commission. Candidates who are declared medically unfit but allowed to appear before the “Review Medical Board” on their appeal by the Appellate Authority will be called for Interview/Personality Tests provisionally.150 marks will be given for the CAPF interview and personality test.

Candidates for the CAPF who have been provisionally selected for an interview or personality test will also get a Detailed Application Form (DAF), on which they must express their preference for the specific force, among other things.

Final Selection / Merit:The merit list will be drawn on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates in the CAPF Written Examination and Interview/Personality Test. Penalty for wrong Answers in Objective Type Papers).
